Regarding training with rhodesian ridgeback circulate so many untruths and inconceivable theories that sometimes I am really sad from that all.
That also training of obedience could be a fun for rhodesian ridgeback and that also ridgeback could perform it with a pleasure and joy you could see on a movie of Rebel´s obedience.
Because initially this video was not destined for a public, but only for my own need for a control of our common daily training, there are some inaccuracies, but the main reason for publication of this video is to show that also ridgeback could do the obedience willingly, with an interest and with a big criving.
We are planning to make a video also with our Sorbonne to show you how such 7 years old ridgeback do obedience with a big pleasure … 😆

The track of strange, 2,5 hrs old, -1°C, completely covered with fresh wet snow, articles also under the snow, and windy weather .. So such a practical track in extreme weather conditions, but Rebel proved his best again … 😉
5.6.2012 – 2 years and 11 months of tracking training
This track was mainly focused to length of track, dog persistency, motivation and number of corners
in VERY windy weather.
Strong wind of course makes more difficult for a dog to work the track out accurately, but Rebel did a great work with minimum faults as you can see in the video.

Weather: 6,30 pm, teplota +10°C, dry grass, cloudy, very strong wind (headwind on the 1. and last leg of the track).
18.3.2012 – 2 years and 8 months of tracking training
This track was mainly focused on an age of track (3,5 hrs) on the difficult terrain, on accuraccy, on slowing down the tempo and also again on crossing the track by stranger.
The track was worked up in the High Noon in the strong sunshine, at +20°C, on the dry earth. It was the first track this year after after big and quick weather change, what is usually a big stress for working dogs. All tracks till this time were worked up in temperatures up to +6°C, what is really a big change.

Weather: 12 p.m., 20°C, earth, dryness, windy (headwind on the 1. leg of the track).
22.8.2011 – 2 years and 2 months of tracking training
Those 2 tracks are again focused on absolute accuracy of dog, on slowing down the tempo – but this time on very difficult terrain.
Raw and stony plough, this time also very dry plough, is for most of trackers the most difficult terrain
for tracking. Many dogs are not able to cope with such terrain at all, because on such terrain
only minimum of scent is remaining.
The older track, the less scent..
In combination with stronger wind is plough for many dogs absolutely unworkeable.
Rebel did not work on plough from March 2011, respectivatelRebel nepracoval na oranici v podstatě od března 2011, or more precisely from Autumn 2010, because from this time is not unsown fields available. So those are the first Rebel´s tracks on plough this year and still he managed to do nice work
(with regard to track age), excepting some small faults…

17.8.2011 – 2 years and 2 months of tracking training
This track was mainly focused on an absolut accuraccy, exactness, on slowing down the tempo and also again on crossing the track by stranger. Even there was really very strong wind so Rebel made a perfect work. He worked out precious corners and such long track (9 minutes) in such strong wind he worked out without any hesitation.

Weather: 18 p.m., 16°C, grass, dryness, very strong wind (headwind on the 1., and 4. leg of the track).
23.6.2011 – 2 years of tracking training
Those two tracks were completely focused just and only to crossing of a track by another stranger.
Both of those tracks are crossed with stranger 4 times. Crossing of track is for a dog extremely difficult matter. Crossing requires an ability for to be able to differentiate different scents on a track. A dog must be able to keep only the scent track what he sniffed at the beginning of the track. I would like to explain the fact, that ability to discent different scents is not usual and easy, and not each dog is able to make it. Some dogs are not able to work such track up at all, some of them are able to manage it only if the crossing is in some time limit.
You could see, also from older movies, that Rebel has not such problem at all..

20.3.2011 – 1 year and 9 months of tracking training
20.3.2011 – The track was laid by stranger, 1000 paces long, 1,30 hrs old, 3 legs, 2 corners 90°, 3 articles, Crossed by second stranger on the last leg of track at the same time of laying of the track. Weather: 16,00 pm, +6°C, muddy field, odorous with green manuring, wet, cloudy, light wind.
This track was aimed at accuracy and method in hard, very muddy terrain with a big density of game (wild animals) and on very odorous field with green manure, what is really not easy for dog´s scent. Track was with big length of legs.
You could see Rebel´s absolutely precise and realiable work, perfect clear corners without any checking or hesitation, great indication of articles, that´s all in nice, calm movement.
9.3.2011 – 1 year and 9 months of tracking training

9.3.2011 – The track was laid by stranger of the dog, is about 1600 paces long, 3 hrs old, 7 legs, 3×90° corner, 2x closed corners (about 45°), 5 articles on the track, 1 curve on 3rd leg of the track. Crossed by second stranger on the 4th and the last leg of track at the same time of laying of the track.
It´s absolutely not easy for a dog to trace such long, difficult and old track and such track checks dog´s ability and capability a lot. A lot of dogs is not able to reach a finish at all. Rebel proved here himself as a great tracking dog with a great character and huge will for work. He tracks with big interest in track, he goes in a quick movement and is able to decide difficult situation with ease. The track was laid purposely close to wood because of verification if he is able to ignore wild animals on the track and be concentrating on the track what is extremely hard for dogs, but he proved his best.
You could see how reliable, responsible and willing tracker Rebel is. Though a very quick movement and strong wind Rebel is quite accurate, he worked up nice legs and clear corners, he marked articles perfectly (yes, with the third article he set me laughing) and did an excellent work.

23.12.2010 – the track was laid by the stranger to the dog, is about 600 paces long, 2,5 hours old, 5 legs, 2 x 90° corner, 2 x closed corner (about 45°), 5 articles on the track, 1 curve on the last leg of the track. Crossed by second stranger on the second leg of track at the same time of laying of the track.
Weather: 8,20 a.m., -2 °C, a frostbound plough field, a frost, a snow dust, windy weather, a fog.

20.12.2010 – the track was laid by the stranger to the dog, is about 700 paces long, 2 hours old, 1 curve on the first leg of the track, 8 legs, 5 x 90° corner, 2 x closed corner (about 45°), 3 articles on the track. Crossed by second stranger on the first and on the last leg of track at the same time of laying of the track.
Weather: 8,10 a.m., -9 °C, a frostbound plough field, a frost, a snow dust, windy weather.
There you could see, that a fault could happen in each time and the most dolorous it is when it comes just before the end of track… Well, it is also about tracking.. :o)
Fortunately – if you train a dog who dislikes making faults and mistakes and hates when handler corrects him, so he will avoid to do the same fault again in future. And it´s a great trait of character what is needed for training..

Weather: 19,30 p.m., 27-28°C, grass, dry land, cloudy, mild wind (headwind on the 1. leg.
3.1.2010 – 6 months of tracking training only
age of dog – 25 months (1. Rebel´s track in his life was on the 1.7.2009 at the age of only 19 months!!)

3.11.2009 – only 4 months of tracking training
